The Tata Nexon, a favorite Indian SUV, faces a new challenger in the safety department – the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO.

Nexon’s Dominance Threatened

The Nexon dominated the Indian market after its 2023 facelift with a new design and features. However, the XUV 3XO might steal its crown for the safest car in the segment.

Mahindra Prioritizes Safety

Mahindra, like Tata Motors, prioritizes safety. Their XUV300 previously scored the highest adult and child safety ratings in Global NCAP, even exceeding the Nexon. Nexon later improved its score, but Mahindra might take the lead again.

XUV 3XO Packed with Safety Features

Reports suggest the XUV 3XO boasts advanced safety features, including:

  • Level-2 ADAS system: This driver-assistance system is missing in the Nexon and could be a game-changer in crash tests.
  • More airbags: The XUV300 previously offered a driver’s knee airbag, which might return with the 3XO.
  • Enhanced build quality: Mahindra is expected to improve the already strong platform of the XUV 3XO for better protection.

These features could help the XUV 3XO achieve even better safety ratings than the Nexon.

XUV 3XO Offers More Than Safety

The XUV 3XO might outshine the Nexon in features too:

  • Panoramic sunroof: This segment-first feature brings a luxurious feel to the cabin.
  • Rear disc brakes: Unlike the Nexon, the XUV 3XO is likely to continue offering rear disc brakes for improved stopping power.
  • Powerful engine: Mahindra claims its 1.2-litre TGDi engine delivers impressive acceleration, reaching 0 to 60 kmph in under 4.5 seconds.

Launch and Pricing

The XUV 3XO is set to launch on April 29th, 2024. Expect a slight price increase (Rs 40k to 50k) due to new features, but Mahindra’s efforts to localize the platform might keep costs competitive. The current price range is Rs 9.39 lakh to Rs 17.79 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

With its focus on safety, features, and performance, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is poised to be a serious threat to the Tata Nexon’s dominance.
